New face on the team
We are delighted to welcome Helen Russell to the team as Marketing Officer. Helen will be joining us at the end of September. Helen is currently working with Oldham Heritage, Libraries and Arts and has previously worked for the Lancashire Economic Partnership so she has a strong knowledge of our patch. Once she is in post there will be a contact email for her on our contacts page should you wish to get in touch. Gayle Knight, who joined the team in 2004, is leaving to concentrate on her career as a freelance arts project manager and all our best wishes go with her.

Kicking Leaves
Autumn will see the return of our successful Children's Literature Festival, Kicking Leaves. This will involve a wide range of workshop opportunities within schools as well as working with local libraries. Current plans include storytelling and drama workshops in various settings including historical buildings, country parks and graveyards! Check the Education site for further news.
Panopticons honoured at Structural Steel Awards.
Burnley's Singing, Ringing Tree and Haslingden's Halo were both nominated for these prestigious national awards and the Singing Ringing Tree was commended at the awards evening held at the Victoria & Albert Museum in July. The other nominees included O2 Arena; The Saville Building, Windsor; T5, Heathrow and the Kings Waterfront Arena, Liverpool.
Mid Pennine Arts wins BIBA 2008 award
Mid Pennine Arts was a winner at the Lancashire Biba awards 2008, an event held at the world famous Blackpool Tower Ballroom. Mid Pennine Arts won the Creative Business of the Year.
Atom wins Civic Pride Award
Atom at Wycoller Country Park in Pendle, picked up a prestigious award at the Civic Pride award ceremony held recently. The Award set Atom alongside major schemes like the Royal Observatory, the Welsh National Assembly and the Young Vic. A new 'Walks to Atom' leaflet is now available from Tourist Information and Wycoller village.
Talking Shop update
The Talking Shop project goes from strength to strength as more towns come on board. Bacup is the next to come under the spotlight, with news just in that Blackburn is also about to start a project. Oswaldtwistle is going to be the subject of Talking Shop: Revisited as research will be looking at how the town has changed in the space of two years.
