Description

A cluster of 10 schools is working with a writer and an environmental artist to respond creatively to new installations of contemporary artworks at Towneley Hall. Children visit the Hall and its grounds for 2 half day workshops before spending 2 more half days in follow up work back in school. For some this is their first visit to the Hall. For others they are being supported to see familiar surrounding with ‘new eyes’.

Children are developing new ways of approaching writing: developing story boards, understanding the role of observation and playing with ideas as they respond to their immediate surroundings

Impact for children:

- Introduction to a new cultural venue

- building vocabulary

- developing speaking & listening skills

- successfully creating new work

Impact for teachers:

- new strategies for literacy development in the classroom

- accessing new resources at a local museum & art gallery

- developing new partnerships to support curriculum development
