Dark Satanics
Mid Pennine Arts organised the first of a series of events in Burnley’s Weavers’ Triangle. It was an opportunity for visitors to explore and enjoy the new, temporary greenscape of Sandygate Square and its unique, dramatic canalside setting of mills and majestic chimneys.
This area of priceless industrial heritage will be redeveloped over coming years. For the present, it is your playground. Yours to rediscover!
This free, twilight event for all the family offered art installations, live music and family entertainment, and some amazing refreshments. The beautifully turfed new public space was ideal picnic territory, we provided the picnic blankets and the visitors made good use of them, not least when we suffered a couple of showers!
ArtYarn artists created an original, one-off textile environment on the day. Visitors were invited to add to the installation and to take part in an outdoor crafting circle. Spacecadets transformed the Square with out of this world, giant inflatable structures. Live music was from Urban Strawberry lunch, making pulsating, cutting edge grooves out of industrial junk, and from ethereal baroque harpist Fiona Katie Roberts.
This event celebrated MPA’s new office base in the Weavers’ Triangle. Dark Satanics is supported by Arts Council England, and by the Sandygate Squared partners’ group through Burnley Borough Council.
