Talking Shop Rossendale Rural

Images by Daniel Nicholls.

Looking at the wider East Lancashire area and continuing to look at the impact of regeneration on small businesses, a Talking Shop project with Rossendale Leisure Trust and Rossendale Community Cohesion group created a further series of workshops linking 10 rural primary schools with 10 villages and their local village shop.

Working with artists Lucy Bergman (a creative writer), Daniel Nicholls (Photographer) and Talya Baldwin (Illustrator), young people’s and community experience of the local shop has been documented through photography and production of a children’s book. A final, cross rural celebration was held in Haslingden library and young people were presented with a copy of the books.

You can see a selection of images from the project here.

The art work and photographs were exhibited in all the local libraries and finally at Mid Pennine Arts. The funding was secured through the Local Children’s Network Fund.
