“The output from this excellent project and its inclusion in the Mid Pennine Arts collection at Lancashire Record Office will enable future generations to look back and understand how the small business sector looked and operated in these local communities and how it was impacted by the regeneration process - an important story which will not necessarily be recorded elsewhere.”

David Tilsley, Archivist, Lancashire Record Office about Talking Shop

Talking Shop

We recognise the instrumental role shops and small businesses play in bringing local people together within the social hub of their neighbourhood. We want to help sustain and celebrate the role of the local shopkeeper and independent trader.

Talking Shop uses a diverse range of arts tools to engage small local shops and businesses in selected Lancashire neighbourhoods.

Talking Shop is not just an arts project, it is a creative tool to keep local independent shops on the regeneration agenda. Engaging shopkeepers to participate creatively with professional artists, we celebrate the characters and stories and provide a voice for local independent retailers. Each individual project becomes a unique model of support and engagement. Since 2005 we have visually documented a diverse range of local businesses and captured not only stories but the current issues.

There are still many stories to tell and many issues to raise, so contact us if you would like a Talking Shop project in your area.
