Welfare State at MPA

In 1971 MPA invited Welfare State International, founded in 1968, to become the Association’s Theatre Fellows, and to transport their village of battered yellow caravans and canvas big top to Heasandford Quarry, which was then a disused dump on the wrong side of the ring road, and is now home to Burnley Youth Theatre.  So began a residency that many Burnley residents will never forget.

Featuring lots of photographs by Daniel Meadows. We know there are lots of Daniel’s images of WS’s work with MPA that we don’t have, you can see more of them on his website.
