Contemporary Heritage

An ambitious programme of site-responsive artist commissions between 2010 and 2013 at stunning historic sites across Pennine Lancashire. The commissions, inspired by Pennine Lancashire’s heritage, animated each site and offered visitors a rare chance to experience major works of art by artists of national and international standing outside urban centres.

Contemporary Heritage, a Mid Pennine Arts partnership programme, made a significant contribution to raising the profile of Lancashire as a distinctive cultural destination.

Contemporary Heritage was supported using public funding by Arts Council England, additional funding and supported was received from the Foyle Foundation, the Granada Foundation, Lancashire County Council, European Regional Development Fund, Modern History, Burnley Borough Council, Blackburn with Darwen Council, and the Stocks Massey Bequest Fund.

Mid Pennine Arts would very much like to thank Kate Jones of Inspired Lives for mentoring support provided through the mentoring programme run by Business in the Arts:North West.
